Join us in a basket! Picnic Basket is a 33-minute composition woven of the sounds of 23 solitary picnics that occurred on November 23rd, 2014 separate in space, together in time. The weaver, Emily Gustafson will debut her composition twice (4:00 & 7:30) with live accompaniment by sound artist-musician, Adam Pierce. We invite you to enjoy these foreign and familiar sounds within a changeable landscape of light and shadow.
Between performances, step into Dr. Ladybear’s office where she will write your valentines to loved and difficult ones. She is a psychic-psychoanalyst, a doctor of letters, master of feelings, with a care for the world. She looks forward to working with you and your heart feelings.
Bring your loneliness, your dreamiest dreams, your disgust with the whole thing, your friend, your lover in whatever combination and let’s make this a Valentine’s Day to remember.

Saturday, January 31
Gallery hours 1-6; ramble leaves at 2
3309 Caniff Hamtramck 48212
Picnic Club will be joining forces with the Detroit Area Rambling Network for a picnic adventure starting at 2:00 this Saturday, January 31. We’ll set out on a hike in the direction of the I-94 Industrial Renaissance Zone, which hosted Picnic Club’s inaugural event in April of last year. We’ll be returning to see what’s changed on this urban prairie as the seasons have passed. Where we once rustled through brush participating in the “Birdwatching Within the Barricades” picnic, we’ll find a scene rendered unrecognizable by more than a mere layer of snow.
Check out the DARN blog for more information and photos on this special picnic and other rambles! From there you can also sign up for the mailing list to receive timely ramble updates. Hope to wander with you this weekend!
Saturday January 24th, 1-6pm
@ Public Pool 3309 Caniff Avenue, Hamtramck
Join us this Saturday for “Ideas for Creative Leisure” a picnic workshop focused on accumulating both inspired and mundane ideas for recreation. We will draw inspiration from the Fluxus event scores of Yoko Ono, George Brecht and others. The original event scores that are produced during this workshop will be distributed to the masses via a 25 cent vending machine located within the gallery. This is also a great opportunity to see the “Picnics in the Polar Vortex” exhibition, and peruse the Picnic Club Library!
Gallery Hours: Saturdays Jan 17th-Feb 21st 1-6pm
The centrifugal force of the polar vortex of 2013 was so strong that it spun bright imagery of a million summertimes onto our retinas despite the blinding darkness of evenings spent inside. Those mirages of summer mark the beginning of Picnic Club, and in the midst of another Michigan winter we reflect on the picnics of our memories and revel in apparitions of picnics of the future.
The Picnic Club has evolved into a series of playfully curated happenings driven by a shared curiosity about the everyday landscapes that surround us. A picnic is a perfect social form for exploration, observation, play, and collaboration. So much time is spent just passing through the world around us… yet, at a picnic you are invited to stay a while. Our semi-organized wanderings have lead us to a silent evening spent arranging flowers behind a strip mall, a circular commute on the people mover, and bird-watching within the barricades of the I-94 industrial renaissance zone. This exhibition is a survey of our adventures thus far.
Join us for a picnic at Public Pool every Saturday beginning with the opening picnic party this Saturday evening 7-10pm and every Saturday after that from 1-6pm, closing on February 21st.

Also, Thank you to Public Pool, for hosting us in their beautiful space and to everyone who has attend a picnic with us this year!
Submission deadline: December 14th
Picnic Club is pleased to announce our first exhibition! The exhibition is being hosted by Public Pool in Hamtramck and will open January 10th and close on February 21st, with a series of picnics occurring throughout the show! The exhibition will function as a survey of our first year of picnics, a travel agency of the cracks in the sidewalk, a library and an art exhibition. We need your help! If you have attended a picnic and have ANY photos, artifacts or art objects that resulted we would love to display them!
